The dough that walked off the bowl — live, on our floor.

We tested forty-one cleaning products under three studio cameras this April. Only one made our judges put down their notes mid-take. Dissolve My Dough — a plant-based enzyme spray from Melbourne — took home the top trophy.

Why this one won

Forty-one entries. Three weeks of testing. One winner. The 2026 Better Home Awards, hosted live from our test kitchen in Studio A, came down to a single demonstration the room couldn't quite believe — a stainless-steel bowl plastered with two-day-old sourdough, sprayed once, rinsed after five minutes, and held up to the cameras clean.

Dissolve My Dough is the work of Kay & Kayla, two friends who started mixing the formula in a Melbourne kitchen in 2023. Their pitch is unfussy: food-grade enzymes that quietly break down starch and gluten, so dried dough lifts itself away instead of being scraped off. No fumes. No abrasives. Safe for bowls, jars, banneton liners, dough hooks, drains, and — they're emphatic about this — for the hands of people who bake every day.

We came in skeptical. Most "miracle" cleaners arrive in our studio and leave in the recycling. This one didn't.

The trophy moment

One bottle. One trophy. One unanimous panel.

After the five-minute test, the judges didn't deliberate long. The Better Home Awards 2026 Kitchen trophy went to Dissolve My Dough — and on the floor, between takes, the bottle sat quietly next to its prize like it had been there all along.

The Makers

Kay & Kayla — two stand mixers and a stubborn idea.

"We got tired of scraping, soaking, and scrubbing dried dough off everything," Kayla told us between takes. "So we built something better." Every bottle is mixed, labeled, and signed off by the two of them in small batches — and shipped with a handwritten note that, judging by our review inbox, customers keep.

The formula is patent-pending, plant-based, and women-owned. Each batch is tested and recorded; ask them for the numbers and they'll send them.
